Live Kind Choose Happiness Unleash Learning
The first two weeks of school were spent getting to know each other. Several activities were completed for 5th graders and teachers to get to know one another. We welcome those back to Hilliard Crossing and celebrate having new students join us as well. We have been establishing a sense of community with our 5th grade.
What we have been up to…
Math: Students continued working on place value of whole numbers and some decimal work. We will continue decimal place value practice next week and have a quiz on Wednesday. Students will have a practice sheet to study.
Reading: We continue to explore the possibilities that reading offers us. We readInterrupting Chicken to remind us that reading is about interacting with the text we read. We also read, Falling for Rapunzel to remind us to be persistent when things get tough. We can change our approach and keep trying and the outcome will be worth it!
We continued reading The One and Only Ivan and wrote responses using evidence from the text to support our opinions. We did this by quoting directly from the text.
Science: We continue learning how to work in groups and negotiate with each other while reviewing what scientists do.
Social Studies: Our class continues working on geography. We had a quiz over several terms used when working with maps and globes. Next week, students will work on using latitude and longitude. Your child will get an assignment on Monday where I would like them to research (if not already known) where their name originated. Kids will be given a paper about the guidelines for this. Any help would be great!
Word Study: Next week will be our first week having a spelling list. The pretest will be on Monday and words should come home that day. Test will be on Friday.
Upcoming events:
Wednesday, Sept. 11 Guidance lesson with Mrs. Vidic (Davis and Snyder classes together…every other Wednesday)
Friday, Sept. 27 HCR Walk-a-thon…information will be sent later
Friday, October 4 Interims sent home (progress report sent each 12 weeks)
Thursday, October 10 Picture Day…info sent later
Reminders…

(such as peanut butter) in it as we have students with nut

snacks. Thank you.

online.
If you have not reviewed your child’s emergency form online yet, please do
